How long is the certificate for this Adult Resuscitation Training (Immediate Life Support - ILS) Level 3 valid for?

Some industries/sectors specify how often training must be undertaken and the validity of certificates. An example is the Resuscitation Training Level 3 training (ILS), which has to be renewed every three years.

The certificate for this Adult Resuscitation Level 3 course is valid for three years.

  • The Adult Resuscitation Level 3 course is based on the outcomes in the UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF)
  • Under the CSTF, learners are required to complete a refresher Adult Resuscitation Level 3 course every three years.
  • Refresher training is required every three years to ensure that all health and social care workers are up to date with legislationregulations and recommended ways of working.

The target audience for Adult Resuscitation Training Level 3

The Resuscitation Level 3 (Immediate life Support) course is suitable for staff with direct clinical care responsibilities, including all qualified healthcare professionals, including:

  • Registered healthcare professionals with a responsibility to participate as part of the adult resuscitation team should undertake adult immediate life support training.
  • Registered healthcare professionals with a responsibility to participate as part of the paediatric resuscitation team should undertake paediatric immediate life support training.
  • Registered healthcare professionals with a responsibility to participate as part of the newborn resuscitation team should undertake newborn life support training.
  • Registered healthcare professionals involved in administering rapid tranquillisation in the care of patients with disturbed mental functioning should undertake adult immediate life support training.
  • Registered healthcare professionals involved in administering sedation in the care of dental or podiatric patients should undertake adult immediate life support training and, where appropriate to caseload, paediatric immediate life support training.

Adult Resuscitation Level 3 – Adult Immediate Life Support

The Adult Resuscitation Level 3 learning outcomes include those in Levels 1 and 2 outcomes plus the following:

  • Be able to recognise the seriously ill adult and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest.
  • Understand and be able to apply the ABCDE approach.
  • Know how to manage and co-ordinate roles and responsibilities within the team in responding to emergencies until the arrival of a resuscitation team or more experienced assistance
  • Be able to participate as a member of the resuscitation team.
  • Be able to provide initial post-resuscitation care until the arrival of the resuscitation team or more experienced assistance.
